July is Where’s Waldo month in downtown Bethel! For the month of July, there will be a scavenger hunt involving 20 local businesses – and it all begins in Byrd’s Books! Stop by to pick up your search list with the names of all the businesses, then collect at least 8 “I Found Waldo At…” cards to receive a free Waldo button at Byrd’s (first 100 players). Feeling a little more adventurous? Collect at least 16 “I Found Waldo” cards and turn them in at Byrd’s Books to receive your Waldo button AND be entered to win the Grand Prize at the Where’s Waldo party.
The Where’s Waldo party will be held on July 31st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Byrd’s Books, with the Grand Prize drawing at 6 p.m. – plus the first 50 arrivals will receive other small prizes, so don’t be late!
“Waldo is the creation of Martin Handford, whose entertaining drawings of crowd scenes swept the world in 1987. Since then, the Where’s Waldo books have held a cherished spot on bookstore shelves the world over. There are now over 55 million Waldo books in print worldwide and they’ve been translated into eighteen languages. An entire generation has grown up searching for Waldo and his cast of wandering companions.
In celebration of Waldo’s longevity and popularity, his American publisher, Candlewick Press, is teaming up with the American Booksellers Association and 250 independent bookstores all across the country, including Byrd’s Books here in Bethel, to have fun and encourage people to visit local businesses. There is no charge to participate, and the game lasts for the entire month of July. For more information about hunting for Waldo in Bethel, call Byrd’s Books at (203) 730-2973.” —Bethel Bulletin
